How I plan my week

...in the chillest way possible.
6

Hey friends!

This month, I wanted to share my weekly planning routine with you.

It’s fairly simple, which makes doing it consistently a lot easier for me. Depending on my mood and schedule, it can take anywhere from 5-30 minutes to plan out my week. (Today, I’m feeling extra tired and DGAF so it was short and sweet.)

📆 A few reminders when it comes to weekly planning:

  • I recommend spending less than 30 mins planning out your week. Expecting too much time or effort from yourself is a likely guarantee you will not actually sit down and do it.

  • Consider your plan a recommendation. Sometimes I look at my task list for the day and think, “What was Monday me thinking??” Not following your original plan is okay, and very likely. I look at my weekly planning as an opportunity to orient myself for the week, knowing plans will likely change as I actually get into it.

  • Weekly planning can happen any time, in any way. I like to look at my week on Monday mornings but sometimes I don’t do it until Wednesday. Other times, like last week, I don’t do it at all. This is supposed to be a supportive practice; if the way you’re doing it isn’t supportive, try another way.

✅ How I Plan My Week:

  1. I choose one goal for the week. I think to myself, if I can only get one thing accomplished this week, what would it be? Then I add the ‘Goal’ tag to whatever task(s) is associated to that weekly goal in my task management system.

  2. I look at my task to meeting ratio for each day. If I have a lot of meetings/events on a particular day, I try to limit the amount of tasks I have due that day.

  3. Sometimes, I look at my task buckets. One thing that’s helped me as someone who sets most of my due dates myself is creating a suggested task schedule. For example, Mondays are designated for 1:1 clients. Tuesdays are 1:1 clients and admin. Thursday are business development and marketing. I don’t always follow that rule, but if I’m feeling particularly stuck one week, I may use them to help me plan.

And that’s it!
